So the Pen Pal was the first book I used on Audible and it was an experience. I am so used to reading paperbooks or ebooks. I thought to myself, where would I listen to this. When I’m reading, I usually cave out time for it because I have a lot of things going on in my life, but then realize I have time in the morning when I’m on the bike at Gym and driving somewhere or cooking dinner. I finished this book in 24 hours, which is a record for me. Each time I hit that play button, it was hard to hit stop because I was curious where the story was going.
Now, I did not expect to love this book as much as I did. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing the story to life with southern twang. And Storm pulls you into the story from the start with the amazing Shiloh and listening to her struggles.
The book is about a young military wife living is Alaska with a young baby while her husband is posted away. She’s struggling from the baby blues and Depression and has some pretty dark thoughts. One day while scrolling on facebook she sees a post about Pen Pals and figures to give it a shot. She looks for any sort of human connection - luckily she gets a match of another young mum whose from the same state she grew up in. The two hit it off – and bond over letters as each week passes. They become close. Then one day Shiloh’s penpal Penelope stops writing to her. Which makes Shiloh sad and concerned to what happened.
She gets this gut feeling that something isn’t right. So when Shiloh gets the chance to fly to the town that Penelope is living, she discovers that her best friend is missing and has been for a little while. So Shiloh starts poking around the town to try and find her friend and gets on the bad side of a few people but also makes some amazing friends.
Shiloh soon discovers that not everyone in small towns is so friendly. And will some clues that she discovers help her find her friend?
Thank you Storm for giving me the opportunity to listen to the amazing fictional world you created and I am looking forward to the series you create.
